Gary Neville says Liverpool owe it to Mohamed Salah to remain in the Premier League title race. He will miss helping the team compete in the Africa Cup of Nations.
The Egyptian international was in superb form on Monday. Scoring two goals and assisting as the Reds beat Newcastle 4-2 at Anfield.
Salah’s goal moved him up the top scorer list with Erling Haaland. While his assist tied him with Ollie Watkins for the top assists ทางเข้า UFABET
Jurgen Klopp’s team continues to lead the league. They are 3 points clear of second place. But now they will be without Salah for their upcoming fixtures in the coming weeks.
The 31-year-old could miss up to eight games if Egypt reach the final of the tournament in Ivory Coast and Neville thinks the Reds will do everything they can to ensure. They will still be in contention for the championship when he returns.
Neville said:
“A lot of those players left. And they are back in the same transition period. They were in when they started under Klopp with Cody Gacpo, Darwin Nuñez and Luis Diaz.”
“They haven’t been refined yet. They’re not at the peak of their careers where you can start making accurate decisions.”
“There is excitement from them. But it can be frustrating in the final moments where things might go a little wrong. You start to wonder what it would be like without Salah, but the team owes it to Salah to get through next month and still be in contention for the title. Still have to be at the top of the league. And still have to stay ahead to give them a chance for Salah to come back and continue fighting for the real championship.”
“I don’t think Liverpool will have a chance to win the championship. And now I still don’t think they can do it again. I hesitated because of those three players (Cacpo, Nuñez and Diaz), but Klopp is something different as a manager.”
